Amy Poehler, Tina Fey Hit the Big Screen
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
The pairing of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey may be over at the Weekend Update desk at Saturday Night Live, but they will be starring in a comedy film together. The film Baby Mama is about a single woman who wants to have a child, but is too committed to her professional life to give it up for pregancy. She turns to a surrogate, and the laughs ensue. There are no specifics about which funny lady will play which role, but the film does come from the co-writer of the Austin Power sequels. Production will not begin until next summer, after Poehler is done with SNL and Fey with her new series, 30 Rock. Look for Poehler in the upcoming movies Spring Breakdown, Southland Tales, Tenacious D in ‘The Pick of Destiny’ and Blades of Glory.

Chevy Chase to Guest on Law and Order
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC,
Chevy Chase—where have you been? He’s back, and this time giving the drama Law & Order a spin as a guest star. He stars as a hollywood actor who is arrested for DUI. The episode has a decidedly familiar ring on the recent incident with Mel Gibson, as the character’s “religious prejudice comes out after his arrest.” The spin, however, is that this character will be “wearing blood-soaked clothes.”
Gibson’s incident took place in July and he pleaded no contest in August, receiving a sentence of three years’ probation, payment of a fine and required attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Chase, of course, is well known for being a cast member of Saturday Night Live, as well as his appearances in the Vacation, Caddyshack and Fletch films. Apparently, Chase hasn’t been too far from the spotlight recently, including the film Zoom this summer, and the indie films Ellie Parker and Funny Money.

Celebrity Jeopardy Contestants Announced
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Games, Specials, Syndication,
I’m not a huge fan of Jeopardy, but I’ve been known to pause while flipping to see if I can answer any questions. It still baffles me that contestants need to provide their answer in the form of a question, but that’s the twist of Jeopardy, I suppose. I do always enjoy the celebrity appearances though for a few reasons: (1) it’s refreshing to see celebs flub up the answers, (2) the money they earn goes to charity, and (3) it always reminds me of those Saturday Night Live sketches with Will Farell as Alex Trebek (and the hilarity of contestant Sean Connery).
This time around the star power is a fun assortment, with Martin Short, Susan Lucci, Regis Philbin, Rachael Ray, James Denton, Doug Savant, Christopher Meloni, Drew Lachey, Carson Kressley, Neil Patrick Harris, Jane Kaczmarek, Joely Fischer, Dana Delany, Mario Cantone, Bebe Neuwirth, Paul Shaffer, Sam Waterston, Soledad O’Brien and Isaac Mizrahi. I look forward to Short and Mizrahi the most—Short is just not around enough these days, and well, Mizrahi just has something kooky that keeps me watching. The show will be taped at Radio City Music Hall on October 5, 7 and 8, with the show to begin a two-week run on November 8th. There are no losers, especially since its all about charity—each celeb is guaranteed to get $25,000 for their choice of charity.

While this will probably amount to nothing more than a measly fine and a slap on the wrist, let us all be be happy in knowing that Paris Hilton was at least charged today with a DUI. As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Paris Hilton was detained after being pulled over in Hollywood back on Sept. 7th. Although she has since claimed to drinking only one margarita that night, Hilton’s BAC registered at 0.08. (She’s also claimed that Paris Stavros was the love of her life, but we all know how that ended). Paris, 25, is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 28th.
Marcia Cross’ Pregnancy Will Not be Part of Storyline

If you caught Sunday night’s season premiere of Desperate Housewives, you probably noticed that it’s already off to a better start than any episode of season 2. With series’ creator Marc Cherry back in the saddle, here’s hoping that the rest of the season will not disappoint. If you wondered what would happen with Bree now that actress Marcia Cross is pregnant—wonder no more. Bree will not have a storyline involving a pregnancy, so get ready for lots of shots of Bree behind various obstacles to hide her burgeoning belly.
If you missed Sunday’s episode, Bree has just gotten engaged to Orson (Kyle MacLachlan), after we discover that he murdered his first wife and put Mike in a coma after hitting him with a car. We’ll have to see how this unfolds—for now, it’s safe to say that Bree is unlucky in love.

Scrubs Star Suffers Injury
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Scrubs,
Scrubs actress Judy Reyes, who plays Carla, recently suffered an injury at home and fractured her pelvis. According to People magazine, the injury occurred after she fell on September 20th. She didn’t believe her injury to be too serious and even came into work the following day. She did leave work that day, going straight to the hospital from the set. Spokesperson Monique Ward said, “She had surgery to repair it on Thursday. She didn’t realize it was as bad as it was and still went to work. Once there, she realized she needed medical treatment… she’s going to be fine.” Reyes will be released from the hospital on Monday and will spend six weeks on crutches. Scrubs will be rearranging their shooting schedule to accommodate the injury, but will continue to do some filming around her in the meantime.

First Casualities of the Fall Season?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, CBS, FOX, NBC, Cancellations, Ratings,
While not officially canceled, two shows have received the kiss of death—being put on hiatus. It seems pretty early in the season to pull the plug already, but Fox’s Happy Hour and Justice have already been put on “hiatus” status. Fox is saying that the comedy Happy Hour will return in November, citing the upcoming baseball playoffs and World Series as their reason for shelving the show, if only briefly. Until baseball takes over, Fox will be running a rerun of ‘Til Death during Happy Hour‘s Thursday time slot.
Justice will also take a break, with a repeat of House airing in its place on October 4th. The network will, however, be airing a repeat of Justice‘s pilot on Friday, September 29th at 8:00 p.m. This time will cut the finale of Celebrity Duets short by one hour.
Neither of these new shows really stood a chance against the competition (even though neither is officially canceled yet)—up against Survivor: Cook Island and The Office.

The Amazing Race Recap: Cheerleaders Throw in Their Pom-Poms
Posted by Monica Edwards Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Amazing Race, The, Editorial,
It was a sad state of affairs for Team Cheerleaders as they were the third team to be eliminated on this 10th season of the Amazing Race. To add salt to their wounds, Kellie did not even complete the roadblock before she and Jamie had to take the walk of shame, already knowing that they were the last team to arrive. The teams were given the task to shoot a fire-tipped arrow at a target that seemed to be a mile away; there is no way I could have finished, my arrow would have probably ricocheted backwards and hit some innocent cow grazing in the pasture so I give props to Kellie for sticking it out ‘til the sun go-eth down on her. Leading up to their demise, they were given the wrong directions heading to their last roadblock so believing they were headed in the right direction, they gave the team of Lyn and Karlyn, the single moms, the lead they needed to secure a 9th place finish. I guess they can look at the bright side and think about all the beautiful scenery they were privileged to see on their drive to Mongolia: just breathtaking. Unfortunately for them, anything can happen, and everyone has a chance to win.
